Description

Messier 46, also known as NGC 2437, is an open cluster of stars in the southern constellation of Puppis, about 5,000 light-years away.

The PN NGC 2438 appears to lie within the cluster near its northern edge, but it is most likely unrelated since it does not share the cluster's radial velocity.

The protoplanetary nebula which is visible left to NGC2438 is called Calabash Nebula OH 231.84 +4.22 and is an almost certain member of  M46, as it has the same distance, radial velocity, and proper motion.

Have been fascinated for a while by this beautiful cluster which is not visible from home, so thanks to Telescope LIve i was happy to get and process it.
